Beautifully stated from recent readers: “ … this book will resonate with many people—whether they have faced trauma, battled addiction, or lived with the consequences of poor choices. More than that, it offers hope and reminds readers they are not alone.”
“ … The lessons learned in this book could be applied to many different parts of your life, not just recovery.”
“ … It’s not just about recovery—it’s about reclaiming your life, your worth, and your spirit.”
“ … I found myself reflecting on my own patterns, even outside of substance use, because the deeper themes of self-worth, resilience, and spiritual connection are so universal. Her voice feels like both a friend confiding in you and a guide pointing toward a healthier path. By the end, I wasn’t just reading her recovery story—I was reminded that change is always possible, no matter how far we’ve fallen. This book is more than a memoir; it’s a beacon for anyone searching for renewal and authentic empowerment.”

After a long day of yoga classes, I stopped by a local restaurant to pick up a slice of pie on my way home. Sitting at the bar for a quick mocktail while I waited for my food, a young man struck up a conversation with me. He quickly looked me up online and ordered my book. A few days later, he invited me to coffee, confessing he was reading my book and how “close to home” it hit him; he had been questioning his relationship with alcohol for quite some time. The message in my book left him feeling hopeful, especially as he could see as we chatted how contented, joyful, and unashamed I stand as I walk through my life. That encounter left me feeling so full of gratitude, and helps me understand that this book and its message was meant to be out in the world.

Oh, definitely when I tried accessing some painful parts of my past. I’m so grateful I had the help of a writing community who encouraged me by offering different writing techniques to access those memories in more useful ways, in service to the story. As I found in recovery, I never have to go through things alone!

That came straight from a lunch I attended with many of my middle school friends, years and years later. As we reminisced about those years, someone remarked, “we were bad girls!” and then someone else followed up with, “we were like in a bad girls club!” That name stuck in my head.
